Content Server 6.4 on MaxDB 7.6 to CS 6.5 on MaxDB 7.9

$

Hello,

we actually hae a content server in version 6.4 based on MaxDB 7.6 and Windows Server 2003. The documents are stored in the database (~900GB)

What we have to do is to adapt the whole landscape, indeed a new Windows Server 2012, CS 6.5 and MaxDB 7.9.

Unfortunately I could not find any convenient solution for my purpose. Which way would you prefer and which was is the practically.

-> Fresh CS 6.5 installation based on Max DB 7.9 on the new Windows Server 2012. Whats next?

An export of the old CS repository and import it to the new CS? or

Restore from a backup of the old MaxDB?

As far as I know the upgrade from CS 6.4 to 6.5 is only replace some dll's, right? (note 514500) But regarding PAM CS 6.5 is not supported on Windows Server 2003, so I can not make an upgrade on the current system.

Should I have to make any pre activities on the current system prior to this?

Thank you for your assitance.

Hi all,

I want to load the system tables on Maxdb 7.6.05_15.

using  dbmcli -d xxx -u control,<passwd>l load_systab -u superdba,<passwd> -ud domain

and I get

-24907,ERR_DBAWRONG: wrong SYSDBA

an sql_execute select * from users shows

OK

END

'CONTROL';'';'CONTROL';'ADMIN';'MULTIPLE';(null);(null);(null);'DEFAULT';'20070208';'00101102';'20070208';'00101102';'20070208';'00101102';'XXX';'host';0;'NO';(null)

So the user superdba should be ok to use.

Does anbody have an idea how to fix this?

Thank you.

Dear MaxDB Guru's

I am trying to restore a maxdb database from one server to another server using Windows Pipes.

I am following the steps exactly as per SAP note 489615. and after following the note.

Tuning Redhat Linux OS parameters

$

Hello,

I've been reading the following notes:

Note 487972 - Tuning Livecache to the Linux OS

Note 767635 - MaxDB Version 7.5 parameter settings for OLTP/BW

Note 337445 - liveCache and memory management

Note 487972 - Operating system parameterization of liveCache

Note 941735 - SAP memory management for 64-bit Linux systems

There does not seem to be any Redhat specific tuning settings (though a couple of Suse recommendations), except for a general mention of all Linux systems with this direct I/O suggestion:

"As of Linux Version 2.6, we recommend that you set the parameter to the value YES rather than DEFAULT NO.

Further notes on this topic:

Note 977515:. Linux System paged during MaxDB data backup/add volume"

The parameters I am wanting to tune are in /etc/sysctl.conf, so since there does not seem to be any Livecache specific parameters, I was going to just take the general recommendations from Note 941735 - SAP memory management for 64-bit Linux systems and set our parameters as follows:

- kernel.shmall

As a configuration recommendation, kernel. shmall can be configured as the amount of virtual memory in the Linux system (RAM + Swap).

- kernel.shmmax

This kernel parameter specifies how large an individual SysV Shared Memory Segment is allowed to be. In the case of an STD implementation, the parameter must be set sufficiently large in order to allow em/initial_size_MB. The value is specified in the unit Bytes so that "21474836480", for example, permits segments of 20 GB.

I am thinking to tune kernel.shmall to 90% of RAM+swap, and kernel.shmmax to 90% of RAM. Also will be setting the following parameters as well:

kernel.msgmni=1024

kernel.sem=1250 256000 100 1024

  1. Parameter kernel.sem corresponds to "semmsl semmns semopm semmni"

vm.max_map_count=1000000

Does anyone out there have any different experiences or tips on how they set these up, specific to Livecache? The SAP application tuning is pretty straightforward, but wanted to make sure we didn't overlook anything with Livecache.

Thanks,

Derek

MaxDB database studio usermanagement errors

Hi,

I (succesfully, as far as I can tell) installed MaxDB on a Windows 7 Professional x64 Vmware virtual PC (maxdb-all-win-64bit-x86_64-7_8_02_28) and now want to also install MaxDB database studio (maxdb-studio-win-64bit-x86_64-7_9_08_01). While the installation seems to finish successfully, I'm running into errors after starting (as administrator). First error is

'Loading preference values failed; default values will be used

Reason:

Missing object type: :Loader'

then

'Could not read preferences

Reason:

Missing object type: :SQLSTUDIO'

The Event log viewer shows warnings about the utilities path not specified and again Errors about 'Missing object type:: preferences'

While Eclipse then starts up, it is not possible to work with the locally installed DB (which seems to be detectect, however). Again there are errors about

'Missing object type::preferences' as well as

'Could not load mounted Local Folders'

'Can not get registration preferences'

'Get login attributes failed'

'User management exception: Missing object tye::UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME'

Searching the web using these errors does result in too much help, , unfortunately, for UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME I do net get a single hit with google.

First I thought my Java SDK 1.7, is too recent, so I uninstalled DB studio and Java and tried again with Oracle jdk-6u37-windows-x64, but I'm getting the same errors. I also noted that, as it seems, the DB Studio remembered the password from the previous installation. It did not ask for a new one during the new installation but asked for the old one after I started it (I consider this a bug).

Any ideas anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I should also note that at first I had a broken MaxDB installation (it failed to load the system tables), which I uninstalled, however and reinstalled (then succesfully).

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Thomas

Connect dbacockpit to maxdb

Hi

I am doing a system copy of content server from a Win2003 system to a Win2012 system.

These are the steps

Installed cs 6.40 on win2012

backup database on old cs

recovery of database with backup of old system

All runs fine and documents can be accessed from SAP

Now I want to setup dbacockpit.

using user control for dbm connection

usin user sapr3 for sql

The dbm connection is fine, but the sql connection cant be made.

Looked like a user/pw issue, but I am able to logon to database with SAPR3/SAP so the password seems ok.

I tried to connect a system which I just installed and did not do the db recovery on, used CONTROL and SAPR3 and that one got setup OK.

Can I just reset the SAPR3 password to SAP in the maxdb? Do I have to update the password in SAP ERP too somewhere?

Or isnt the user/password not the issue?

Thanks

Sander

Why is the Log Area size much smaller than the log volume

$
0
0

I have been following up on an Early Watch report that has been generated for our production SCM 5.0 system running liveCache 7.6.02 Build 14.  The alert says "The LOG volumes size in your system is too small. Recommendation: Configure LOG Volumes to at least 2 GB".  There are two interesting things about this.

1) I have spent the last couple of days reading all the OSS Notes, and MaxDB documentation I could find, and this does not seem to be documented as a recommendation anywhere.  Does this seem like a realistic recommendation without taking into account the level of change actifity?

2)  There is a single log volume allocated with size 2,097,160 KB.  In production LC10 and DBMGUI report this to be correct size under volume details, but only list the total log area size as 1,706,328 (81% of the volume size).  We have a non-production environment with exactly the same size log volume, but it reports that the log area size is 2,032,008 KB (97% of the volume).  What leads to these different amounts of wasted space, and is there any way of getting the database to start using it?

Thanks,

Thomas
