MAX-DB Memory paramaeter

Hello All,

I have an SAP ECC 6.0 EHP5 running with SAP MAX-DB on SUSE Linux.

we have allocated 30 GB of RAM to this machine, both data base and SAP app server are running under same host or physical application server.

In the process of performance tuning i have allocated 20 GB of RAM to SAP using em/initial_size_mb and based on this i have adjusted other SAP profiles parameters .

Now i  want to allocate 8 GB of RAM to database , can any one please help me how to allocate this fixed amount of RAM to database MAX DB so that if any query runs on database it responds very fast.

From my understanding SAP MAX-DB uses cache_size to read content from database please correct me if i am wrong.

My current  CacheMemorySize  is  350080 , can i increase this value to higher level so that my max db performance also increases when ever you are running any query on database.

When i open TX  SPRO and expand nodes it takes lots of time to respond, i have changed parameters related to SAP but i have done nothing related to MAX DB. Please help me understand how can i increase performance of maxdb.

On 30 gigs of memory there are only 10 active users , I want this machine to be running on ample speed its a very critical machine for us.

My MAX - DB Release -  " 7.9.08.008 ".

DB client lib.                  "SQLDBC 7.8.1.014 "
DB releases   " MaxDB 7.7, MaxDB 7.8 , MaxDB 7.9 "
DBSL version  " 720.00 "

DBSL Patch Level             " 441 "

Please let me know if you need any further logs.

Thanks in advance !!

Regards,

Vardhan.

Restore - MaxDB 7.9

Good morning,

I'm facing a problem during a MaxDB Database restore.

There is a database with size of 1 TB (32 Bits) that I need to move it to an other server (64 Bits).

Actually, I did a restore from the last backup (COMPLETE) and it finished successfully. I don't have INCREMENTAL backups after this last COMPLETE backup and I need to apply all last LOG Backups into the database for consistence.

My problem is that in the new database, the backup history was lost and it does not recognize the log numbers.

Do you have any idea how to restore these LOG backups?

Thanks in advance,

Ricardo

MaxDB database studio usermanagement errors

Hi,

I (succesfully, as far as I can tell) installed MaxDB on a Windows 7 Professional x64 Vmware virtual PC (maxdb-all-win-64bit-x86_64-7_8_02_28) and now want to also install MaxDB database studio (maxdb-studio-win-64bit-x86_64-7_9_08_01). While the installation seems to finish successfully, I'm running into errors after starting (as administrator). First error is

'Loading preference values failed; default values will be used

Reason:

Missing object type: :Loader'

then

'Could not read preferences

Reason:

Missing object type: :SQLSTUDIO'

The Event log viewer shows warnings about the utilities path not specified and again Errors about 'Missing object type:: preferences'

While Eclipse then starts up, it is not possible to work with the locally installed DB (which seems to be detectect, however). Again there are errors about

'Missing object type::preferences' as well as

'Could not load mounted Local Folders'

'Can not get registration preferences'

'Get login attributes failed'

'User management exception: Missing object tye::UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME'

Searching the web using these errors does result in too much help, , unfortunately, for UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME I do net get a single hit with google.

First I thought my Java SDK 1.7, is too recent, so I uninstalled DB studio and Java and tried again with Oracle jdk-6u37-windows-x64, but I'm getting the same errors. I also noted that, as it seems, the DB Studio remembered the password from the previous installation. It did not ask for a new one during the new installation but asked for the old one after I started it (I consider this a bug).

Any ideas anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I should also note that at first I had a broken MaxDB installation (it failed to load the system tables), which I uninstalled, however and reinstalled (then succesfully).

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Thomas

Hi all,

I want to load the system tables on Maxdb 7.6.05_15.

an sql_execute select * from users shows

So the user superdba should be ok to use.

Does anbody have an idea how to fix this?

Tuning Redhat Linux OS parameters

$

Hello,

I've been reading the following notes:

Note 487972 - Tuning Livecache to the Linux OS

Note 767635 - MaxDB Version 7.5 parameter settings for OLTP/BW

Note 337445 - liveCache and memory management

Note 487972 - Operating system parameterization of liveCache

Note 941735 - SAP memory management for 64-bit Linux systems

There does not seem to be any Redhat specific tuning settings (though a couple of Suse recommendations), except for a general mention of all Linux systems with this direct I/O suggestion:

"As of Linux Version 2.6, we recommend that you set the parameter to the value YES rather than DEFAULT NO.

Further notes on this topic:

Note 977515:. Linux System paged during MaxDB data backup/add volume"

The parameters I am wanting to tune are in /etc/sysctl.conf, so since there does not seem to be any Livecache specific parameters, I was going to just take the general recommendations from Note 941735 - SAP memory management for 64-bit Linux systems and set our parameters as follows:

- kernel.shmall

As a configuration recommendation, kernel. shmall can be configured as the amount of virtual memory in the Linux system (RAM + Swap).

- kernel.shmmax

This kernel parameter specifies how large an individual SysV Shared Memory Segment is allowed to be. In the case of an STD implementation, the parameter must be set sufficiently large in order to allow em/initial_size_MB. The value is specified in the unit Bytes so that "21474836480", for example, permits segments of 20 GB.

I am thinking to tune kernel.shmall to 90% of RAM+swap, and kernel.shmmax to 90% of RAM. Also will be setting the following parameters as well:

kernel.msgmni=1024

kernel.sem=1250 256000 100 1024

  1. Parameter kernel.sem corresponds to "semmsl semmns semopm semmni"

vm.max_map_count=1000000

Does anyone out there have any different experiences or tips on how they set these up, specific to Livecache? The SAP application tuning is pretty straightforward, but wanted to make sure we didn't overlook anything with Livecache.

Thanks,

Derek

Migrating an SAP 4.7x110 system on W2003 32-bit to a 64-bit host (x86_64)

$

We want to migrate an SAP 4.7x110 system on Windows Server 2003 32-bit to a 64-bit host (x86_64). Afterwards we want to upgrade the system to ECC 6.0.

According to PAM, 4.7x110 is not supported on Windows 64-bit.

According to note 960769,

"After the migration to the 64-bit hardware, your SAP system may have a status that is not supported by SAP for productive use (see Note 814834). You may need to upgrade to a new SAP release. In this exceptional circumstance, SAP offers support for the duration of the upgrade.  Note that SAP does not support a longer, more productive use of such a system for the period after the migration and before the upgrade....

...We generally recommend to use SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) for the productive use on x86_64. However, the 32-bit operation of SQL Server 2000 on Windows x86_64 64-Bit (supported by Microsoft) is also supported by SAP...

...The following table illustrates which OS/DB combination supports each SAP release in the target system.

Source System   Target System (Kernel, DB Software)     Support Comment

3.1I   3.1I 32-bit, MSSQL 2000 32-bit    only for upgrade (a,c)

4.0B   4.0B 32-bit, MSSQL 2000 32-bit    only for upgrade (c)

4.5B    4.5B 32-bit, MSSQL 2000 32-bit    only for upgrade (c)

4.6C   4.6D 32-bit, MSSQL 2005 64-bit     productive (b)

620   640 64-bit,  MSSQL 2005 64-bit    productive (b)

640   640 64-bit,  MSSQL 2005 64-bit    productive (b)

700   700 64-bit,  MSSQL 2005 64-bit    productive (b) "

According to note 814834,

"SAP supports the x86_64 platform on Windows 2003 Server SP1 x64 for kernel 4.6D and kernel 6.40 and higher. ... For product versions based on kernel 6.40 and higher, only 64-bit operation is supported."

According to note 905634, about SQL Server 2005 support (where a mention to R3E 4.7 x110 is missing)

"Supported SAP products based on SAP_BASIS 6.20 and SAP_BASIS 6.40

Product Windows platforms

BW 3.10 x86, IA-64

SCM 4.0 x86, IA-64

EBP/CRM 4.0 x86, IA-64

ECC 5.0 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64

NetWeaver'04 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64

SCM 4.1 x86, IA-64, x64

SRM 4.0 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64

CRM 4.0 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64

R3E 4.7 x200 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64

SolMan 3.2 SR1 x86, IA-64, x64 "

+//////////////////////+//

According to all this information, may I move our 4.7x110 system onto a Windows Server 2003 SP1 64-bit, SQL Server 2005 64-bit, and after that we would upgrade to ECC 6.0?

Thanks !!!

Eva

Mass export from Maxdb

Dear Expert,

As our project requirement, we need to move archive server from SAP content server to MS Sharepoint. So we need to move old attach file to MS Sharepoint so I'm not sure that Maxdb store attach file with binary and encryption or not? And can we possible to export that file to file system?

Can we mass download old attach file and specify PR/PO/TE number from SAP Content server : Maxdb to local file system?

Recommended MAXUSERTASKS value

If I have a system with potentially 800 users on SAP, what should I set the MAXUSERTASKS value to ? The server has 12 GB RAM and 4 CPU. Does this mean that if all 800 users are logged in to SAP, there will be 800 connections to MAXDB, hence it will require the MAXUSERTASKS to be set to at least 800 ? Other than the memory required (800 x 1024kb (TASK_STACK) = 800 MB), is there any other negative impact or is 800 too much ?

I  am very sure that I gave correct credentials while installing. My OS password and master, DB passwords for all the three SAP Instances(CS,DB,CI) are the same.

Even I have reentered the passwords for all the users of the DB using the XUSER.

xuser list

xuser clear

xuser -U c_J2EE -u CONTROL,password -d W31 -t 0 -I 0 -S SAPR3 -n W312017db

xuser -U DEFAULT -u SAPW31,password -d W31 -t 0 -I 0 -S SAPR3 -n W312017db

xuser -U c -u CONTROL,password -d W31 -t 0 -I 0 -S SAPR3 -n W312017db

xuser -U w -u SUPERDBA,password -d W31 -t 0 -I 0 -S SAPR3 -n W312017db

Can anyone help us in resolving the issue. Please let us know which logs needed to find out the exact issue.

I am attaching the dev_sapdbctrl log file for your reference.
