We have a production problem at the moment as follows: A WAS Java is running on MaxDB (7.5.00.32; I know, it is old), had no issues for years.

Now, since 12 days, the system halts every morning, due to the DB not answering any more. On the DB side, normally (after a WAS / DB restart), the DATA area is filled up to 79%. We observed now that during the issue, this goes up to > 95%. So I expect this coming from results, as this space gets free after a restart immediately.

We also had a bad design for the DATA area (one DATA file with 15GB). We will change this within the next hours to 5 * 5GB DATA files, removing the 15GB DATA file afterwards. That should (a) offer more parallelism (we see many IOWaits and "IOWait(R)(041): b13get_node: await read              :-(" during the critical situation), and (b) offer enough space.

If this succeeds (any additional thoughts welcome), I would like to analyse which statements lead to big results, as probably this is what has changed 12 days ago. Question: How to check this?

1- After install of content server and maxdb, how do I find out the maxdb is running or not?

2- Is there a command to check status of maxdb instance and name of database of maxdb?

3- How do I start maxdb with dbmcli?

4- What is the parameter file of maxdb and it's location (just like Oracle has a parameter file init.ora)?

Hi Gurus,

One of our development systems was recently upgraded to EHP5. We had also completed the upgrade using one sandbox system which is a copy of DEV system.

After the systems were upgraded to EHP5, we are finding that the Program RFCEXEC vanishing from EXE directory. And Because of this, XI connectivity fails. Is this due to the EHP5 upgrade? Please help me in this.

I have installed SAP Netweaver developer Studio 6.40 which installed MAXDB database also. Due to some reason I had to unistall the trial version of Developer studio, in this process developer studio got unistalled but not MAXDB.

I use Add/Remove programs and uninstall MaxDB. I get the messages like this.....

Start uninstallation now (y/n) : Y (resoponse)

then message displays

found instance of J2E, cannot remove package..first remove all instances...

I have stopped all the services, even then Iam getting such error message. How do I uninstall?

I (succesfully, as far as I can tell) installed MaxDB on a Windows 7 Professional x64 Vmware virtual PC (maxdb-all-win-64bit-x86_64-7_8_02_28) and now want to also install MaxDB database studio (maxdb-studio-win-64bit-x86_64-7_9_08_01). While the installation seems to finish successfully, I'm running into errors after starting (as administrator). First error is

'Loading preference values failed; default values will be used

Reason:

Missing object type: :Loader'

then

'Could not read preferences

Reason:

Missing object type: :SQLSTUDIO'

The Event log viewer shows warnings about the utilities path not specified and again Errors about 'Missing object type:: preferences'

While Eclipse then starts up, it is not possible to work with the locally installed DB (which seems to be detectect, however). Again there are errors about

'Missing object type::preferences' as well as

'Could not load mounted Local Folders'

'Can not get registration preferences'

'Get login attributes failed'

'User management exception: Missing object tye::UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME'

Searching the web using these errors does result in too much help, , unfortunately, for UM_CONNECTION_KEY_REPLACE_WITH_DATABASE_NAME I do net get a single hit with google.

First I thought my Java SDK 1.7, is too recent, so I uninstalled DB studio and Java and tried again with Oracle jdk-6u37-windows-x64, but I'm getting the same errors. I also noted that, as it seems, the DB Studio remembered the password from the previous installation. It did not ask for a new one during the new installation but asked for the old one after I started it (I consider this a bug).

Any ideas anyone? Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I should also note that at first I had a broken MaxDB installation (it failed to load the system tables), which I uninstalled, however and reinstalled (then succesfully).

Hi all, I am trying for to perform a SAP DB upgrade from 7.3.0.28 to version 7.5.0.21. My problem is that when I execute command SDBUPD the following messages appear on screen almost immediately and the update is terminated:

beginning to check sap db instances

start new instance update

cannot establish database instance session

I followed the instructions in the upgrade guide and notes mentioned but this issue is nowhere mentioned. I am not a database specialist so any help and/or suggestions are more then welcome.

I have been tasked with sorting out the backups for our SAP Content Server 6.40 running MaxDB 7.6.

I have since discovered that there is no backup of redo logs occurring.

Having read the MaxDB 7.6 documentation about backups, it doesn't seem to suggest a backup strategy although it does give an example SAP Library - Basic Information

However I am considering the following strategy.

1) Full online backup (already happens - I recently got this working properly with Omniback 6.11, by setting DBM_KTO_SUCCESS = 1800)

2) Automatic log backups every 30mins (currently not set to time interval)

3) Archiving log backups every ?

As it stands there is no back up of the redo logs to tape and they are only written to the logs when log segment reaches 3.33GB (1/3) the size of the database is reached.  Which doesn't happen often as we are only storing word documents in the Content Server.

So to minimize a disk failure during the day, I want to override the log backups hence setting it to every 30mins.

Anyone got any suggestions or comments to my thinking here?

Hi all,

I've read a lot of forum threads about various ways of finding out the size of tables in KB.  However I have a slight problem.

My DB shows the following in the Data Area :-

However when I look at the size of the tables I see this :-

The above was taken from DBACOCKPIT in Solution Manager and DB59 > Assistant.  This matches what's shown in Database Manager also.

I have checked system tables sysinfo.schemasize and sysinfo.tablesize and these seem to match the entries from above.

What am I missing here?  These numbers don't translate into the Used Area!

Is there a better way of determining why it seems to think the database is 233GB when the used tables only account for maybe 4GB?

Also whilst looking at sysinfo.tablesize it shows the following :-

For some reason I get ? in the USEDSIZE and ROWCOUNT fields for COMPONENTS0001.

Any help much appreciated.

/SAPAPO/OM_DELETE_OLD_SIMSESS - periodic job fails says as below log. I could not find OSS note in my search.

Looks to me, the lock corresponds to a simulation version is missing. Job tries to delete simulation version/ lock together.. however it fails.

If this is the case, how to clear old SIMM versions?

Everthing seems to be fine for me.

For installing EHP 6 there is a new tool from SAP, the SUM (Software Update Manager, the new EHPI). In Phase Prep_init/Checkprof_ini  i get the following error:

ERROR: The new SAP tools in /usr/sap/GI6/SUM/abap/exe cannot connect to your database.

Possible reasons are:

- Environment variables are not properly set for the version of the
database client which is used by the new tools.

- Required database libraries are not accessible or cannot be found neither
through a compiled-in path nor through explicit search via the
shared library path.

- Auxiliary files such as language files etc. are not compatible with
this version of the database client.

Please check database / OS specific notes referenced in the manual for more help.

The log file /usr/sap/GI6/SUM/abap/log/DBCONNCHK.LOG contains more

I wanted to refresh our QAS DB with our PRD DB. So, I have carried out a recovery with a PRD backup. I have made a mistake when I loaded the system tables with Database Studio. I used SUPERDBA for the login and not the SAP<SID> login.

I tried :

dbmcli -d QAS -u CONTROL,pass -uSQL SUPERDBA,Pass sql_execute rename user SUPERDBA to SAPQAS

But no effect ...

How can I come back ?

I am having trouble with a function that, when used in the where clause of a select will cause an error if the first column selected is of type INTEGER. Not sure whether I am doing something wrong or whether this is a bug.
